Our biennial visit from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service occurred on 7th April. Elinor, the schools fire service liaison officer, spent time with both the foundation phase and key stage 2 pupils highlighting and raising awareness of the importance of fire safety.
Within the foundation phase the children were encouraged to think of areas within the home that could pose a fire hazard, the importance of having working smoke alarms and were read a story highlighting the dangers of playing with matches.
Whilst fire hazards and smoke alarms also featured within the key stage 2 session, the children also discussed the importance of having a fire plan to ensure that in the event of a fire at home, all members of the family know what to do in order to reach safety. This was supported by a video demonstrating the key points.
To end both sessions, volunteers were chosen to model the fire-fighters uniform.
