Simon Hart's Visit

Simon Hart, MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire visited school on 13th June to speak to key stage 2 pupils about his recent visit to Patagonia and how next year we will be celebrating 150 years of the Welsh language in Patagonia.

In 1865, nearly two hundred Welsh emigrants boarded the tea clipper Mimosa at Liverpool to sail to a new life in Patagonia. The emigrants were concerned that their Welsh culture and language were under threat in Wales so they decided that in order to protect this, they would establish a Welsh community in the Chubut Valley as it was reported to be very similar to Wales.
