Sophie Whitmarsh Visit
On 10th February Sophie Whitmarsh volunteered to do an art workshop with years 5 & 6 as part of their Gallery theme. Sophie, who has a fine arts degree, began by inspiring the children to be creative with a string art activity. The pupils enjoyed this activity immensely and would have incorporated the staff in their artwork if only they had stood still long enough!
Sophie then introduced them to the work of Chuck Close, an American artist who paints human faces by working from a gridded photograph. The grid is then replicated on canvas and each square is painted individually, usually with similar toned circles on a contrasting background, giving the finished picture a pixelated look close up. The children then had an opportunity to create a piece of artwork imitating this style of art.
Many thanks to Sophie for giving her time to enhance the children's learning experiences.
